Like new this spectacular Singer commission comes from a good home and either enables you to jump a 3 or 4 year waiting list – if Singer do even recommence classic 911 production – a rare opportunity!
Singer Vehicle Design has justifiably developed the reputation as creators of the ultimate in redesigned air cooled 911s. Acknowledged to be build cars with a level of attention to detail which is unmatched, the cars have acquired a legendary status and each named commission is highly sought after if they ever come onto the open market.
Early cars such as this are built on a 964 platform which is stripped and coated before being clothed in carbon fibre bodywork. The list of bespoke options is endless in respect of trim, with most parts redesigned or crafted as an homage to historic Porsche componentry. “Everything is important” is a Singer mantra which is why the build quality and tolerances on panel and part fit is pursued with almost fanatical zeal, with many bespoke parts which are specific to a specific car and not interchangeable with other commissions.
The running gear is based around 3 derivatives of the air-cooled 964 flat six with a 3.6 270 hp, 3.8 350 hp and 4.0 390 hp options, 6 speed gearboxes and trick suspension with either Ohlins or KW dampers.
Typically around 4000 hours went into building one of these cars and the waiting list for a new build classic 911 was around 3 to 4 years – before Singer stopped taking orders for this model.
The Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer is probably the high water mark in a modern 911 driving experience and the build quality is of a different magnitude to a volume production car – which is reflected in their value to collectors and 911 enthusiasts.
