The vehicle in detail

Porsche introduced the 911 SC “Super Carrera” for the 1978 model year, consolidating the previous 911 and Carrera lines into one. Built around the fully galvanized G-series chassis that debuted two years prior, the SC adopted a new 3.0-liter engine based on the flat-six in the type-930 911 Turbo. Robust and reliable, it featured a stiffer die-cast aluminum crankcase and Bosch K Jetronic electronic fuel injection in place of the magnesium crankcase and mechanical fuel injection of the outgoing 2.7-liter engine. Although peak power decreased slightly compared to the 2.7-liter, the new 3.0-liter flat-six’s wider power band and improved torque were a boon for everyday driving.
The 911 SC launched in Coupe and Targa body styles. With more than 60,000 cars constructed over its six-year lifespan, the 911 SC was a huge success right from the start.
This well-documented, “slick-top,” North American-market example will be of great interest to Porsche collectors, having remained within the same family since new and been driven only 13,228 miles as of cataloguing time. It was delivered to Stuttgart on 15 March 1982 through Porsche’s European Delivery Program for its Philadelphia-based owner. The German plate used during this trip through Europe accompanies the car to this day, as do the original tourist shipping order invoice. Per this document, the car retains its original color scheme of Black over Black Leather and factory options, including a black roof liner, cruise control, alarm system, tinted glass, and US-spec catalyst.
This collector-grade 911 SC remained in the Northeast until the original owner relocated it to Florida in the late 2000s. The vehicle was moved to Colorado in 2021 by the original owner’s daughter, where it benefitted from regular service. This Porsche 911 SC was cherished from day one, as evidenced by the extremely low mileage and meticulous records, which include full service and maintenance documentation since delivery from German and even the original check written to purchase the car on 4 March 1982, as well as a receipt for US Customs duties, and copies of the manufacturer’s statement of origin, shipping invoice, and temporary German registration for the tourist delivery program.

Being a “slick-top” with no sunroof only adds to the car’s abundant appeal for Porsche purists. This, together with its many other virtues, puts it among the very best of its type to come to market. In addition to an extensive history file and the German tourist-delivery plate, this 911 SC is accompanied by tools, a car cover, a first aid kit, an air compressor, factory manuals, and the original warranty and maintenance book stamped with the car’s delivery date of 19 March 1982 to Porsche headquarters in Stuttgart.
