The number 362 was delivered on February 10, 1981 by the Swiss general importer Porsche AMAG in Zurich to the first owner, a Swiss ice hockey player and coach legend. To this day, the Indian red car has remained in the hands of three other owners, with the last one in Germany having owned the car since 2016 – or perhaps even being partially owned by it, as the many trophies and prizes show his enthusiasm for this model. Among other things, in 2016 he took 2nd place at Mission 1000 in Roding in the category "Most original water-cooled vehicle".
The 924 Carrera GT was manufactured with front fenders, fender flares on the rear axle and the front bumper with a front apron made of polyurethane (PU). The material was both lighter and more resistant to rust and generally offers more stability.
Weight was further reduced by thinner glazing and lift was reduced by the larger rear spoiler.
A total of three previous owners in Switzerland and one in Germany are documented. Until 1993, the car was serviced in the AMAG Zurich delivery company. From this point onwards, maintenance invoices are available from Porsche specialists up to the current point in time and document the care and collector's condition just like the original checkbook with a complete on-board folder.
Extensive work has been done in recent years. This included a complete engine overhaul by Reiner Telkamp in January 2019, as well as, among other things, a crankshaft sensor cable including a new ignition coil, a new right engine mount (racing mount) and a stainless steel exhaust system.
Ready for the 'Red Carpet.'
In addition to a removable roof, car radio, and electric windows and exterior mirrors, the equipment includes a particular specialty: the first owner ordered the interior in red on special request, making this 924 Carrera GT the only known example with a different interior color.
A new HU has already been carried out and new tires are fitted before handover. The car can therefore be used immediately. This 924 Carrera GT is therefore just as suitable for collectors of rare models and hobby enthusiasts as it is for rally drivers who want to take part in historic races. Since this vehicle is certainly unique in the paddock, attention is guaranteed.
A rare circumstance is the complete documentation of all previous owners and the mileage. In addition, the service documentation for this vehicle is comprehensible on the basis of the invoices and, in addition to the on-board folder, there is both the original checkbook and the Swiss exhaust gas logs on which the mileage was noted annually. The last owner was a fanatical fan of this model, even kept a register to identify as many vehicles as possible and collected all the literature, original documents and brochures available at the time. Just like these movements, the complete set of keys, the original tool set and the jack are part of this extensive collector's package.
More athletes than suit wearers: The pinstripes are a classic feature of the 80s.
Also an 80s trend: shoulder pads. The Carrera GT variant of the 924 takes this trend into account in the form of fender flares.
The basis of this sports car was the 924 Turbo with the 2-liter four-cylinder engine. In this version, the engine delivered 154 kW (210 hp) at 6000 rpm. The top speed was 240 km/h and the vehicle needed 6.9 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h.
Conclusion: This Porsche 924 GT from the Swiss first delivery in the color guards red with the red interior made to order is from documented previous ownership and convinces with a continuous service history. Due to the meticulous care and extensive maintenance work, it is a very well-preserved original vehicle. Accident damage, body work or exchanged units or rust problems are not known or recognizable. The overall impression is in a rare exceptional condition and worthy of a collection.
This limited special model is currently still an undervalued collector's item for connoisseurs, for which it is worth speculating to what extent the potential will unfold. In any case, you don't need a crystal ball to experience the driving performance that this sports version is equipped with and which, above all, above 4,500 revolutions is beyond any doubt. Rarely have I driven a four-cylinder with so much emotion. From our point of view, the 924 Carrera GT is not only related to the 911 2.7 Carrera MFI in terms of its nominal output of 210 hp, but no matter how different they may appear at first glance, the genes and the originally foreseen place of use are the same.
