The vehicle in detail

Here is a handsome and extremely original, low-mileage third-generation Porsche 964 Carrera C2 Speedster in Guards Red over black with some interesting options. It is also a particularly rare offering, as it is believed that 936 911 Speedsters were built for all markets in 1994—far fewer than the 3,000 that Porsche had first hoped to build and sell that year. Just 469 in US specification made it to American dealers.

According to contemporary reports, standard colors for the 1994 model were said to be Red, Speed Yellow, Grand Prix White, Maritime Blue, and Black, all with black tops. A single car in Silver Metallic was seen at the car’s introduction. The cut-down windshield on the new car was not removable, greatly improving water-tightness, and the unpadded fabric top could be tucked away beneath the fiberglass twin-humped tonneau, which covered a fully-carpeted luggage storage space in lieu of rear seats. The tonneau was supported by gas struts.

This car was delivered with a limited-slip differential, silver-painted 17-inch Carrera Cup-style alloy wheels instead of body-colored rims. Buyer-selected options included Comfort seats, rather than the much more commonly seen Recaro Sports buckets, a raised-hub steering wheel, a shortened shifter, air conditioning, and more. The consignor states that it was first sold in late 1993 through Claridge’s Ltd. Porsche in Fremont, California to Mr. Robert Graham of Alamo and Rancho Santa Fe. He retained it until 2014, when it was acquired by well-known Porsche broker and vintage racer Bruce Canepa in Scotts Valley, California. After a detailed service was carried out by Canepa it was purchased by Mr. Theodore Rusnak.

Rusnak, himself a Porsche dealer, reportedly barely drove the car before offering it to the consignor, a noted Speedster collector in Florida, in December of 2016. After a satisfactory pre-purchase inspection, the consignor purchased the car. The consignor states that the car has been driven just a thousand additional miles over the past five years, during which it has been maintained by Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach, Florida; it now displays a mere 6,566 miles at time of cataloguing. A number of service invoices from both Claridge’s and Champion are included with this Speedster, along with the car’s original Porsche radio/cassette player, window sticker, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, jack, tools, and owner’s manuals.

This is an uncommon opportunity to add a rare and elegant Speedster to your Porsche collection.
