Midnight Blue Metallic Over Fashion Gray Leather 964 Cabriolet, 5-Speed Manual, 3-Owners From New, Modern Blaupunkt Bremen Stereo Upgrade, Momo Prototipo Wheel.

This 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic and has been under the care of just 3 owners from new. Showing 154,411 km, this car has been kept in outstanding overall condition and is equipped with a number of desirable options. Produced in October of 1990 as a German market car, this car was delivered to its first owner on December 12th 1990. The dark Midnight Blue Metallic paint is paired with a special order dark blue fabric soft top, which remains in exceptional shape and even has a crystal clear plastic rear window- a rarity in cars of this era. With many 964s receiving countless modifications over the past 30 years, this car on its original Design 90 wheels is a refreshing view of what an original 964 would have looked like in period.

The vehicle in detail

The interior of the car is wrapped in Fashion Gray with leather covering the seats, shift boot, and lower door cards. The interior is in remarkable condition, and in this example, the front seats are fitted with power adjustment and seat heating. Although the exterior of the car is largely original, a few modifications have been carried out inside the car to improve the experience- the standard 4-spoke steering wheel has been swapped out for one of the most common Porsche upgrades, a Momo Prototipo. Additionally, the stereo has been changed out for a modern Blaupunkt Bremen head unit, which looks period correct but gives the 964 Bluetooth and MP3 capabilities.

Sitting behind the passengers is a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated flat 6, rated at 247 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Although that doesn’t sound like much in modern terms, it was enough to propel the 964 from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed in excess of 160 mph. This is then run through a 5-speed manual transaxle with power sent to all four wheels. This was the first Porsche outside of the 959 hypercar to be fitted with all-wheel drive, which made the car exceptionally surefooted in any weather but still gave a classic sports car experience thanks to the 31/69 front/rear power split. One of the largest changes on the 964 was the introduction of coil springs instead of the torsion bars that were fitted to all previous 911s. Using MacPherson struts up front and semi-trailing arms in the rear, the 964 offered more tunability and far more predictable handling at the limit.

With its classic looks and driving experience, paired with some modern refinement, it is no surprise that the 964 has become one of the most sought-after 911s in the collector car world. This example presents in outstanding condition and would be a perfect companion for top down summer enjoyment, but would be just as at home on a trip up to the mountains to go skiing.

Since the Porsche 911 was introduced in 1964, most design changes were evolutionary instead of revolutionary, with alterations made for crash safety, tire fitment, and handling, but it never received a comprehensive redesign. But at the end of the 1980s, Porsche realized it was time to freshen the 25-year-old design and set to work on the first major shakeup in the model’s history. Debuting in 1989, the 964 was a design that was still distinctly Porsche but was 85% changed over its Carrera 3.2 predecessor. With new integrated impact bumpers and, for the first time, the options of all-wheel-drive and a Tiptronic automatic gearbox, the 964 brought the 911’s technology up to date while retaining much of the classic driving experience people came to love.
