Unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1990, the new 911 Turbo type 964 is the successor to the 930 Turbo 3.3L “widow maker”. It has the same wide fenders, the mythical Fuchs rims have been replaced by no less sublime 5-spoke rims. The 964 Turbo 3.3L gains 20 horsepower, allowing the aircooled flat 6 to deliver 320 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and to propel the car to 270 km/h. The 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 5 seconds, the 1000m from a standing start in 24.5 seconds. 3 660 copies and three years later, the displacement will be increased to 3.6L.
Externally, the Porsche 911 type 964 is the profound evolution of a base dating from 1963. Of course, with the help of technology, the engineers have succeeded in transforming a car that nevertheless retains its own identity and unique character. It is impossible not to find in the 964 the original charm of the 911. Among other things, the 964 Turbo has Cup Design exterior mirrors and black brake calipers. It also benefits from two side exhaust outlets.
The 964 Turbo benefits from the new generation’s triangulated drivetrain, which marks a break with 25 years of using torsion bars. Both front and rear spring-damper combinations are introduced for improved steering. With standard power steering, handling becomes exceptional. In addition, the 5-speed G50/52 mechanical gearbox is excellent. Apart from the ABS, the car has no assistance, but the precision of the front end and the stability at high speed are two qualities that can be attributed to the Turbo.

Dévoilée au public au salon de Genève en mars 1990, la nouvelle 911 Turbo type 964 vient succéder à la 930 Turbo 3.3L “faiseuse de veuve”. Elle en reprend les ailes larges, les mythiques jantes Fuchs tirent leur révérence au profit de non moins sublimes jantes 5 branches. La 964 Turbo 3.3L gagne 20 chevaux, permettant au flat 6 aircooled de délivrer 320 chevaux à 5 750 tr/min et de propulser l’auto à 270 km/h. Le 0 à 100 km/h est abattu en 5 secondes, le 1000m départ arrêté en 24,5 secondes. 3 660 exemplaires et trois années plus tard, la cylindrée sera augmentée à 3.6L.
Extérieurement, la Porsche 911 type 964 est l’évolution profonde d’une base datant de 1963. Bien évidemment, la technologie aidant, les ingénieurs ont réussi à transfigurer une voiture qui conserve néanmoins une identité propre et un caractère unique. Impossible de ne pas trouver à la 964 le charme originel de la 911. Entre autres, la 964 Turbo adopte les rétroviseurs extérieurs Cup Design et des étriers de frein noirs. Elle bénéficie également de deux sorties d’échappement latérales.
La 964 Turbo bénéficie des trains roulants triangulés de cette nouvelle génération, ce qui marque une rupture avec 25 ans d’utilisation de barres de torsion. A l’avant, comme à l’arrière, les combinés ressorts-amortisseurs font leur apparition, pour un meilleur guidage. Avec la direction assistée de série, la maniabilité devient exceptionnelle. En outre, la boîte mécanique G50/52 à 5 rapports est excellente. Hormis l’ABS, l’auto ne dispose d’aucune aide mais la précision du train avant et la stabilité à haute vitesse sont deux qualités que l’on peut attribuer à la Turbo.
L’exemplaire que nous proposons est dans un superbe état, cette auto a bénéficié d’un entretien régulier et sain. Son intérieur tout en cuir bleu sur demande est un véritable atout, qui vient s’ajouter à un kilométrage relativement faible et dont l’évolution est attestée par l’important dossier de factures et de contrôles techniques. Matching colors et matching numbers, dotée de son carnet d’entretien original et de ses notices, il s’agit d’une excellent exemplaire de 964 Turbo, et l’auto sera révisée dans le cadre de la vente.
