2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS
The 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS is the last GTS Porsche built before the 992 took over, and the finest balance in the entire 991 range. The 3.0 litre twin-turbo flat-six produces 450 ps and 550 Nm.
The GTS package amounts to more than a power increase. The suspension sits 10 mm lower with PASM Sport, rear-axle steering is standard, as are Sport Chrono and the widened Carrera 4 body. The GTS was also the first 911 outside the GT department to receive centre-lock wheels, a detail normally reserved for a GT3.
What makes this car unique is the paint. Apollo Blue was developed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as a test colour, to validate how the shade behaves across the different materials a 911 is built from. The body is steel, the doors and bumpers aluminium, the roof magnesium, the mirrors and handles plastic. Every colour has to read identically across all of those surfaces. Apollo Blue passed that test but was never added to the Paint to Sample range afterwards. A second car was therefore never built.
Fun fact: at Porsche, every individual paint colour is formulated and matched by hand, a process that typically takes around eight months. All of that work went into a shade that ultimately ended up on exactly one car.
