The original Porsche 911 Turbo reset the performance benchmark upon its introduction in 1975. Among the first production cars to utilize turbochargers to enhance performance, early 911 Turbos quickly gained a reputation for thrilling, yet manic, behavior; these cars would, however, became more and more refined with each passing generation.
The advent of the 911 Turbo for the model’s 993 generation brought a number of interesting and welcome changes; this was the first 911 Turbo to utilize not only twin turbochargers, but also all-wheel drive. With 408 horsepower on tap, all-wheel drive helped to keep the car in line, assisting with its 4.5-second 0–62 mph sprint and a top speed of 180 mph—performance figures that give sports cars of today a run for their money. Significantly, these cars are the last of their kind, as Porsche would never again turbocharge an air-cooled engine after 993 production ceased.
Originally delivered to Eero Volkswagen of Anchorage, Alaska, this Porsche 911 Turbo was sold new to a local who paid a $15,000 market value adjustment at the time to secure the vehicle. Finished in a classic combination, Guards Red over Black leather, it was optioned with heated front “racing style” seats, rim caps with Porsche crests, digital sound package, remote six-disc CD changer, self-dimming mirrors, and a rain sensor. Said to have been stored in a climate-controlled facility under a cover for the past 25 years, this 911 Turbo has remained in “delivery condition” to this day; at the time of cataloguing, just 99 miles are shown on the odometer.
In 2021, the current owner traveled up to Alaska to purchase the 911 and was reportedly amazed to find the new-car smell preserved after nearly three decades! Once the deal was made, it was shipped back to the lower 48 within a closed trailer; great effort was put forth in preserving the mileage by limiting the distance rolled throughout the process.
The vehicle was subsequently sent to Porsche Factory Classic Restoration in Atlanta Georgia, where an extensive inspection concluded after 34 labor hours. An invoice on file indicates that a number of seals, o-rings, and filters were changed at this time, though much of the work involved cleaning the turbos. The master technicians working on the car found no major mechanical issues during this project, a testament to the level of care the vehicle enjoyed from new.
This Porsche is accompanied by a tool kit, owner’s manuals, and a spare tire with inflator. Documentation includes a copy of the window sticker and invoice copies from Porsche Classic Center, as well as a letter from Porsche attesting to the accuracy of its mileage.
