In 2006, Porsche revealed the new 997 Turbo at the Geneva Motor Show, featuring completely new styling, a relief to most, as well as increased power and performance. The 3.6L twin-turbocharged engine was revised to produce 480bhp in comparison to 415bhp from the previous model. The 0 to 60mph time was whittled down to just 3.5 seconds which is not far off from a Carrera GT. So, the performance was certainly there but what excited potential buyers the most was the change in the styling as the previous 996 was not very well received in the looks department. However, the new 997 definitely screamed Porsche with rounded headlamps, sloped back, and more concise rear tail lamps. With the aesthetics now sorted and the already superb performance of the 996 enhanced to make the 997 a more pungent road car, the 997 generation of 911s was a resounding success for Porsche.
