PORSCHE 997 MK 1.5 TURBO

It is quite common for most car models to undergo a facelift somewhere halfway through production. Porsche is no exception. It is often a series of small updates to freshen up a car that has been in production for a few years. But in the case of the 997 mk1 versus mk2 Turbo, the differences were quite large. It was namely that the mk1 was the last Turbo to get a Mezger engine. An engine praised for its robustness. The updated car got there to balnd other an updated interior where you saw a significant lift in the center console and more. But it is in 2008, when the updated model is about to go into production that something rather strange happens in the Porsche factory. There is a mistake somewhere in the workflow and an estimated 200 mk1 Turbo cars leave the factory with most of the new interior but otherwise as mk1s. These cars came to be known as 997 Turbo mk1.5. This example is one of them!

The vehicle in detail

Something that of course is not obvious when you first arrive at the car. At a glance, this is a Meteor gray mk1 Turbo. Nothing on the exterior gives away how unique the car is. On the other hand, the eyes fall on the now classic Turbo rims that hide large ceramic disks with yellow yokes. The exterior is well preserved. Partly thanks to a sparse use over the years but also thanks to the PPF film that sits over the front sections to protect against stone chips. The big differences come when you open the driver’s door. You are greeted by a symphony of leather and alcantara. Sports seats with embossed Porsche crests and a sports steering wheel completely covered in alcantara. Your eyes wander further and it takes a while to connect. Although the center console in a mk1 997 is a pretty elegant design, the updated version in the mk2 was a big step forward. Which makes this car feel a lot more modern. In front of the driver, five white dials and a white SportChrono in the center of the dashboard. You continue down past the PCM 3.0 unit and are greeted by a manual gear selector also covered in alcantara. Every 997 Turbo is a special driving experience. But this one stands a head above the rest. A car with all the best features. Mezger engine and the new interior. Manual gearbox and the right equipment. Sold in Sweden on top of that.
