My first experiences with a Porsche date back to 1966. That’s when I learned to drive on a Porsche Junior tractor—and my passion for Porsche was ignited. In 1974, the first 911 found its way into our family, and I claimed the back seat, which was “mine” from the very first moment. Even back then, I had already started working at gas stations and later for a used-car dealer who sold vehicles to U.S. Army soldiers. In 1976, the inevitable path to self-employment began, and two years later, together with a friend, I made my first purchase: a used 911—a 1972 Targa in Viper Green. Starting in the 1980s, I imported cars from England, the U.S., and other countries. These vehicles were sold as-is or restored beforehand—Carpoint was born.
A friend and I acquired our first Porsche 911 race car (model year 1964) in 1984, and from then on, Porsches became a constant presence in my life in many different ways: dealing, restoration, rally racing, and buying and selling.
Classic cars were booming and were no longer just niche items for a few car enthusiasts. So I also turned my attention to British cars and established a business in this sector as well, covering sales, restoration, and spare parts. Carpoint LTD was founded, after which we had a company in England and a restoration facility in New Zealand.
As a result, Carpoint became the importer in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for the Ginetta, Marcos, and GTD brands. In the 1990s, the import and registration of classic cars became our specialty. Many of these cars were 911s, and we often faced challenges with their registration. We struggled greatly with the poor availability of spare parts, as many parts were no longer available for the early Porsche models. So I decided to reproduce parts for Porsche vehicles, as the market and demand were definitely there.
Among our first parts were the Bakelite shift knob for the 901, the 915 transmission, the rear bumper horn for models up to 1973 (both with and without a rubber pad), floorboards for the driver and passenger sides with mounting parts, and all types of chrome exterior mirrors, including those for the 914 model.
We wanted to manufacture the highest quality parts according to original specifications and market them at affordable prices. The parts were to be indistinguishable from the originals in terms of function, appearance, workmanship, and feel.
Today, over 20 years later, we supply approximately 2,000 different replacement parts for Porsche vehicles, all manufactured in-house.
