Sportec Established in 1997
1997
Driven by the vision of making motorized dreams come true, Sportec was founded in 1997 by Ueli Hodel and Martin Högger with the aim of reinterpreting vehicle optimization and performance enhancement at the highest level. Andreas Hodel, an experienced technical and mechanical all-rounder, was involved from the very beginning and played a key role in building up the company.
Fascinated by the possibilities of modifying and optimizing vehicles, the company’s founders were among the pioneers of tuning and performance enhancement in Switzerland.
With the principle that changes should only be made if they serve the safety and longevity of the vehicle, Sportec set the highest standards for vehicle optimization in Switzerland and beyond.
1998
Over the years, the company has expanded its focus and technical expertise to meet customer demands in the field of performance cars and classics.
In 1998, the first high-performance brakes from the Sportec brand were developed, with further products following soon after.
2000-2001
Sportec also became known thanks to its award-winning in-house developments. The year 2000 marked the birth of the legendary Sportec RS4 B5 and the “Mono 10” wheel, which was launched in 2001. Thanks to their timeless design, they are still popular on modern vehicles today.
2005
In 2005, Sportec broke the world record for the fastest SUV with a Porsche Turbo SP 600M, officially clocked at 308 kph. This made it clear that the company was playing in the top league of vehicle optimization. The record was maintained for over 10 years. Ueli Hodel and Günter Mandl took over the company in equal shares.
2006
In 2006, Sportec achieved manufacturer status, which it still looks back on with pride today.
2008
In 2008, Sportec decided to manufacture its own vehicle for the first time. Based on a Porsche 997 Turbo, the SPR1 was created. A completely new vehicle weighing 1300 kg and with a peak output of up to 900 hp. The SPR1 was limited to six units and is still one of the fastest road cars in the world today.
2010
Sportec has always had close ties to motorsport. As many customers wanted to take their vehicles to the racetrack, a professional motorsport department was founded in 2010 with Andreas Hodel at the helm. Under the name “Sportec Motorsport” (now Sportec Racing), the racing team took part in various sprint and endurance races throughout Europe.
Sportec’s many years of experience in racing still has a significant influence on the development and optimization of road vehicles today.
2012-2014
Sportec shows its creative side. In 2012, another design classic from Sportec was launched on the market: the “Mono 7” rim. This was followed in 2013 by a complete conversion of a 964 to the F-model lightweight version and, in 2014, a conversion of a 964 Porsche Carrera to RSR with a weight of just over 1000 kg.
2018
Ernst Keller wins the overall series title for Sportec Motorsport in the 911 GT3 Cup class at the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Suisse in Misano with two comfortable race victories. Meanwhile, the Sportec family continues to grow and is joined by René Käppeli as strategic and administrative managing director.
2020
In 2020, long-time Sportec and Sportec Racing customer Gregor Burkard joined the company as its new owner and managing director. Supported by the two previous owners, Ueli Hodel and Günter Mandl, as well as the previous managing director, Andreas Hodel, exciting new projects are being launched. New products are in development and existing areas are being expanded with new resources. Sportec aims to achieve even greater success in the next chapter of its company history.
2021
A new era begins for Sportec. DTM star and sports car world champion Marcel Fässler, an experienced and well-known Swiss racing legend, is hired as team manager of the motorsport division. The first major success comes with an early overall victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series in the AM class.
