1964 Porsche 356C 1600 SCv

This 1964 Porsche 356C 1600 SC is a superbly restored and mechanically sound example. Presented in its original colour scheme of Light Ivory (6404) over dark red interior and boasting a factory engine and gearbox rebuild by Porsche Classic in Stuttgart. As well as a recent cosmetic restoration including a professional high quality repaint.

This 1965 model year Porsche 356 is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored example of the final and most advanced iteration of the 356. Powered by the higher output 95bhp 1600 SC engine and fitted with disc brakes, this 356C is the most capable of its lineage.

El vehículo en detalle

Originally registered in Toronto in 1965 the car then ended up in the warmer climate of California, from where it was imported to the UK in 2007. The car was purchased by its current owner, a long standing Porsche enthusiast and Owners Club member, in 2008. It was then extensively toured across Europe, covering thousands of miles and visiting Porsche events in Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Holland, Denmark, and Germany. The current owners have recorded the mileage and details of every journey during their ownership, this history comes with the car.

In 2010, the owners took the decision to return the car to Porsche Classic in Stuttgart, where both the engine and gearbox were fully rebuilt by factory technicians. Additional inspections and remedial work were carried out at the same time, ensuring the car remained reliable for further European touring. This work is supported by invoices on file totalling €31,000. The car was returned to France in April 2011 and servicing was continued in between road trips by Porsche Classic in France. Following a relocation to the UK in 2019, the car was entrusted to renowned marque specialist Andy Prill for a comprehensive service and mechanical check over. This included a full brake system overhaul and the installation and tuning of refurbished carburettors, again this work is all documented and an additional £6,000 invested.

More recently, in 2024, the car was sent to A-List Finishing in Norwich for a complete repaint. During preparation, isolated rust was identified in the sills and lower front wings. This resulted in new outer sills being fitted and localised areas of rust professionally cut out and replaced with hand fabricated metal sections. The car was then treated and repainted using the Novol process for classic cars, with new underbody protection also applied. The result is outstanding.

Overall this is a superb 356 with a rare combination of Porsche factory mechanical work and rich European touring history. This is a great opportunity to own a usable classic Porsche 356, now ready for continued enjoyment by a new owner. The car drives particularly well as you would expect, with everything working as it should. Supplied with a large folder of history since it came to Europe, tool kit, spare wheel, jack and certificate of authenticity from Porsche.
