The Porsche 911 Targa was introduced in 1967 as a response to safety concerns raised in the US over fully open-top cars. Named for the Targa Florio road race, the model featured a stainless steel roll bar, removable roof panel, and foldaway plastic rear window allowing for an open-air experience. Buyers could choose a higher-performing “S” (Super) variant which included upgrades such as a 160 hp engine, ventilated disc brakes, front and rear sway bars, KONI shock absorbers, and 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels.
One of approximately 483 examples built for 1967, this early 911 Soft-Window Targa was completed on February 1, 1967. Per a copy of its Porsche factory record on file, the Targa was finished in Polo Red (6602) over a black leatherette interior, with a Webasto gas heater as the sole option. Delivered new by notable Porsche dealership Sonauto in Paris, this Targa was later imported to Portugal. Under current ownership, an extensive restoration was entrusted to marque specialist SportClasse of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2021. The car was stripped and repainted in its original hue. Similarly, the Targa’s drivetrain was rebuilt, while the interior was reupholstered.
Built for only a short period, Soft-Window Targa models hold a special place among collectors and enthusiasts on account of their rarity, charm, and immersive driving experience. This beautifully restored 911 2.0 S Soft-Window Targa is ready for its next owner to exhibit or enjoy on winding roads.
