The interior is finished in two-tone black and Bordeaux leather with aluminum trim. Optioned with the exceptionally comfortable 14-way power-adjustable sport seats and GT Sport Steering wheel, this Cayman is equally suited to everyday use and weekend mountain drives or track work. Apple Carplay adds great functionality to the infotainment display, and aluminum sport pedals are pleasant to use and look great in the foot well. The optional Sport Chrono package fits the car with a lap timer on top of the dashboard that doubles as a clock- this feature is functional and looks great on top of the dash.

Powering this 718 Cayman is a 2.0 liter turbocharged flat-4 rated at 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. When paired with the 6-speed manual gearbox found in this Cayman, Porsche claims 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. Although these engines were maligned on their initial release, they have proven an excellent pairing with the mid-engine chassis, providing performance, fuel economy, and far greater tuning potential than their naturally aspirated counterparts.

Porsche has recently announced that the internal combustion engine will be a thing of the past when the next-generation Cayman and Boxster go on sale in 2025. Although this news has understandably been met with mixed reception, the 718 cars are quite a high note to leave on. This Cayman is ideally set up to be used every day and with the rare 6-speed manual gearbox, will be enjoyable every time you get behind the wheel.

In 2016, Porsche was preparing to debut its highly anticipated fourth-generation Boxster and third-generation Cayman. Word had been circulating in the automotive community that, due to emissions regulations, they would have to change the engine from Porsche’s signature flat-6 to a turbocharged flat-4. Although many were initially skeptical, by mid-2016, when the cars started to get into the hands of drivers and journalists, their fears were put to rest. Dubbed the “718” series of vehicles, the name harkened back to Porsche’s 718 race car that won the Targa Florio in both 1959 and 1960- powered by a flat-4 engine and relying on low weight and superior handling over big power made for a natural connection to their new model.
