1987 Porsche 930 Turbo
At the 1973 Paris Motor Show, Porsche unveiled a prototype of a road-going 911 equipped with a turbocharged engine. After a year of intense development and despite the oil crisis, the company unveiled the production model, the 930 3.0 Turbo, in October 1974. Equipped at the time with a 3-litre engine developing 260 hp BV4, this marked the beginning of a long commercial adventure for Porsche’s Turbo, an adventure that continues today within the 911 range. In August 1977, the 3.0 was replaced by a 3.3 with an intercooler developing 300 hp, which remained unchanged for 12 years, still equipped with the BV4. This BV4, 930/30 gearbox developed for the Turbo evolved over the years and finally, in 1989, Porsche offered a 5-speed gearbox developed on the basis of the G50 gearbox introduced on the Carrera 3.2 in 1986.
A total of 10,087 Porsche 930 Turbo models were produced in the Turbo 3.3 BV4 version between 1977 and 1988 in European specifications.
