The car was delivered in May 1967 to Wiesbaden, Germany. Details on the factory Kardex point to it being a demonstrator at the Rossel dealership before being bought by a US serviceman. Soon after this it came into the ownership of Karl von Wendt, who sold the car to fellow German Porsche racer Willi Khausen in 1983. The car was bought by a German enthusiast in 2002 and restored to period racing specification in the von Wendt livery. It was subsequently brought to the UK in 2005 by well known UK historic racer Peter Rutt, who campaigned the car at the Spa 6 Hours and Goodwood Revival on several occasions.
The car has been prepared to high standards for top level historic racing. The car was run by leading preparers Maxted-Page from 2016 for six years which included significant expenditure on the engine, gearbox and chassis and subsequently placed in the care of Tuthill. The car competed with success in several rounds of the 2 Litre Cup including an outright podium finish and then in the Porsche Classic race at Le Mans Classic.
OUR THOUGHTS
This car appeals for many reasons. It is in a recognisable and attractive livery, having been campaigned successfully by Lee Maxted-Page and Andrew Jordan in 2018 / 2019. It benefits from a high specification Maxted-Page engine and, accordingly, should prove to be extremely competitive, not least in the all-important Gentleman Driver category of the championship with races at the Grand Prix circuits of Barcelona, Spa-Francorchamps, Dijon, Paul Ricard, Estoril and Imola.
Having been built as a race car twenty years ago, this car benefits from the patina of two decades of top line racing and the recent results show that it remains competitive. A real 911, ready to be enjoyed again.
