1964 Porsche 356C Coupe

VIN 216020 • Engine No. 711238 – Matching • Transmission No. 72873 – Matching • Porsche Kardex • Completed October 29, 1963

A beautifully restored, numbers-matching 356C Coupe finished in Bali Blue with a Cashmere interior. Imported by Mac-Han Import in Waltham, Massachusetts, and delivered to the first owner, Charles Paine of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The 356 was factory-ordered with one side-view mirror and a compensator spring. In September of 1963, the 356C was the first 356 model to introduce four-wheel disc brakes to improve braking.

This 356 was acquired by a well-known Porsche marque expert in Southern California for his personal collection. At the time, it was a solid, rust-free example with original floor pans and was selected as the basis for a complete restoration intended for his personal use. As the restoration neared completion, one of his clients expressed interest and ultimately acquired it.

The vehicle in detail

The restoration was performed to a high standard; it was stripped to bare metal and finished in Bali Blue, one of the most attractive colors offered on the later 356s. The paintwork is beautiful, with excellent gaps and panel fit, and clean body lines. Exterior trim, brightwork, glass, and rubber components present very well, while the interior has been restored with the same attention to detail, featuring correct German materials and finishes throughout.

During the restoration, the 356’s mechanical systems were rebuilt, including the engine and transmission. The suspension, braking, and fuel systems were also addressed, resulting in a stunning 356C that is well sorted. Powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four engine (Type 616/15) producing 75 horsepower paired with the matching 4-speed manual transmission (Type 741) and four-wheel disc brakes, the 356C delivers the refined yet engaging driving experience associated with the final evolution of the 356.

Complete with Porsche Kardex, spare wheel, and owner’s manual, this numbers-matching 356C Coupe offers a compelling opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored late-production example finished in its factory Bali Blue and retaining its matching engine and transmission.
