The condition is entirely in keeping with the mileage. The paintwork presents extremely well, while the burgundy interior remains in excellent order, right down to the original Blaupunkt Toronto radio cassette. It is the sort of detail that matters on a car like this, because originality is a large part of its appeal.
The history is refreshingly straightforward. With such low mileage, the car has not required the sort of major restoration or large-scale mechanical work that many higher-mileage or more heavily used Carrera 3.2s now need. Maintenance has been largely routine and carried out by Official Porsche Centres and respected Porsche independent Autostrasse.
There is sometimes an assumption that a large invoice file automatically tells the best story. In many cases it does. But not always. At this level of mileage and originality, the absence of engine rebuilds, bare-metal resprays and major restoration invoices is not a weakness. Quite the opposite. This is a car that has simply not needed that sort of intervention.
That matters, particularly now. Even the youngest Carrera 3.2 is well over three decades old, and many are entering the restoration window. With classic Porsche restoration costs only going one way, finding a genuinely low-mileage, highly original car in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult.
As is often the case with very low-mileage cars, this 911 has seen only sparing use in recent years and has spent time in storage. For that reason, it has been fully recommissioned here at Paul Stephens and is now ready to be driven and enjoyed.
And that is the important point. This is not a museum piece with mileage so low that using it would feel like vandalism. At 28,000 miles, it is special, certainly, but not so fragile that the next custodian should be afraid to add to it. Used properly, maintained correctly and kept in the condition it is in today, it has every chance of remaining a remarkably original Carrera 3.2 for many years to come.
On The Road
On the road, it feels exactly as a good 3.2 should. There is that familiar air-cooled 911 clarity: compact dimensions, excellent visibility, unassisted steering full of conversation and a chassis that works with the road rather than trying to flatten it into submission.
The 3.2-litre flat-six is strong and immediate, with the sort of torque that made the Carrera 3.2 such a useful real-world step on from the SC. The Type 915 gearbox rewards a measured, methodical shift, and once you settle into its rhythm, it becomes part of the experience rather than something to be rushed.
Driving a classic 911 always feels like a small step back in time, but in a car with just 28,000 miles, that sensation is even stronger. The view over the wings, the slim pillars, the upright screen, the sound from behind you and the lack of modern distraction all combine to remind you why these cars continue to matter.
In Summary
For many, the Carrera 3.2 is the definitive naturally aspirated 1980s 911, and this very appealing Carrera 3.2 with low mileage, one previous owner, rare colour, desirable Sport specification, makes a very strong case for that view.
