Technical:
The 911 (997) Turbo, which was launched in Germany in June 2006, was the first gasoline engine to be equipped with a twin-turbocharger featuring variable geometry. This allowed the turbochargers to spool up quickly, virtually eliminating turbo lag. Like its predecessor, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet was equipped with a three-layer soft top that opened or closed fully automatically in about 20 seconds. At launch, the engine delivered 480 hp and a maximum torque of 620 Nm between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm, and with the overboost function, as much as 680 Nm. In 2009, a facelift was introduced, and since then, the Turbo has also been equipped with direct fuel injection and, upon request, a PDK transmission. Engine output increased to 500 hp. Center-lock wheels were available as an option, similar to those on the 997 GT3/RS 3.8. Starting in 2010, a Turbo S was also available again, whose engine delivered a whopping 530 hp and, with the standard dual-clutch transmission, accelerated the 997 from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Aside from the GT models, this was definitely the most powerful car you could buy at the time.
