The Porsche Carrera GT (model series 980) is Porsche’s first super sports car in the 21st century. Produced from 2003 to 2006, the Porsche Carrera GT features a V10 mid-mounted engine with a displacement of 5.7 liters and 612 hp. The Porsche Carrera GT engine is based on a design that was originally intended for Formula 1 and later for a Le Mans prototype, but was not used in either case. It was available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Porsche Carrera GT was the first production car in the world to feature a carbon monocoque and carbon engine support. Porsche produced a total of 1,270 Carrera GTs.
