Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2

Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2

Coupé, 1987

Remarcamos

  • Beautiful Configuration
  • Great Condition
  • Guards Red

The 3.2 Carrera was launched in October 1983, and although similar in appearance to the outgoing SC, had numerous technical improvements to improve driveability, refinement and performance.

Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital Motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy, but the top speed increased from 146mph to 152mph too.

El vehículo en detalle

Electric seats replaced the manual items in the SC, the heating system was improved, and the interior featured more luxurious materials.

In October 1986, a significant change was made with the introduction of the G50 gearbox which further improved refinement and ease of driving. It is these models that are considered the more desirable cars today.

This example

Supplied by Waldron Porsche on 28th May 1987, it is finished in the classic 80s statement combination of Guards Red with black leather interior. The full UK Sports pack option was ticked too, so it is fitted with front and rear spoilers, Bilstein dampers and electric sports seats (which in our opinion, are still one of the greatest to be fitted to a Porsche). It has now covered 102,000 miles from new with a service history from both Porsche main agents and independent specialists.

However, whilst that is comforting to read, the stand-out feature of this particular car is its remarkable condition throughout. Go to all the usual structural weak areas of a 911 from this period and this example is still rock solid, whilst the original panel gaps still present as they would when it was new. The interior is also worthy of mention, as that too belies its true mileage, presenting like an example with a quarter of the 102,000 recorded on this car.

Prior to the next custodian taking delivery, it will be fully prepared in our workshop here at in Little Maplestead and supplied with our own in house warranty.

Our thoughts

The 80s were great times, and a Guards Red Porsche 911 Carrera was considered a statement of success by the London bankers and brokers. However, today that reputation really undermines the fact that the 3.2 Carrera really was the last of the traditional air-cooled torsion bar cars that still offered the traditional 911 experience, but with the new G50 gearbox making it much easier to drive. Collector grade examples of the 3.2 Carrera are now floating around the £100,000 mark, yet this eminently useable and beautifully presented example offers a very safe step into air-cooled 911 ownership for a considerably smaller asking price.
