El vehículo en detalle

The generation of Porsche 911 produced from late 1993 to early 1998, known to insiders and enthusiasts as the 993, is immortalised as the final evolution of the hallowed sports car featuring an air-cooled engine—a critical distinction to hardline Porsche purists. Not only did the 993 mark the end of a legacy that started with the progenitor 1948 Porsche 356, it would also prove to be the last of the hand-built 911s.

As soon as the voluptuous 993 Carrera was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1993, enthusiasts were clamouring to see what a Turbo version of the new 911 platform would look like. This anticipation would persist until 1995, when the new 911 Turbo was unveiled for the 1996 model year. Dressing up the already handsome 993 with the Turbo’s wider bodywork was a proven formula for success. Its twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre, inline six-cylinder engine afforded 959 levels of outright performance, indisputable reliability and everyday drivability.

Externally, one of the model’s most impressive visual cues is its imposing presence from the rear view; Porsche widened the base model’s rear track and fenders by approximately 32 millimetres. The front was also extended downward, allowing space for three large air intakes to improve aerodynamics. The new “tea tray” type rear spoiler had an almost integral, wrap-around look that appeared to melt over the car. Further contrasting with the previous generation 964 Turbo’s tacked-on “whale tail” spoiler, the new aero device was also lighter and body-coloured.

One of only 935 German-market Turbo Coupés produced in 1996, this attractive 911 is finished in Polar Silver Metallic-over-full black leather. It was desirably specified from the factory with an electric sunroof, heated power sport seats, cruise control, rear-wiper, 92-litre fuel tank, Nokia Digital Sound Processor, Blaupunkt Stockholm head unit, and a glare-reducing, green-tinted windscreen. Additionally, the shift lever to the car’s six-speed manual transmission has been customised with an aluminium cap adorned with the original owner’s initials. The stock 18-inch light alloy “Turbo Twist” wheels—which house standard red-painted brake calipers— are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

Beautifully presented in its correct colour scheme, this 993 911 Turbo Coupé is a well-equipped example of a landmark model—the final hand-built, air-cooled, forced induction 911 model ever produced.
