To develop a pool of Works drivers for its sportscar racing entries, Porsche partnered the United Parcel Service to create the UPS Porsche Junior Team. From its 1997 formation, the squad predominantly plied its trade in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany—where five of its hotshots, including Mike Rockenfeller, Marc Lieb, and Dirk Müller won a Drivers’ title—in addition to occasional outings in the Porsche Supercup on the Formula 1 support bill.
The 996-type 911 GT3 Cup offered here contested the German series throughout 2005, with Lance David Arnold behind the wheel for the seven rounds. His best result arrived in the penultimate race of the term, when he scored a podium finish at Istanbul. Given its ties to the factory, the car’s first owner is notably listed as Porsche AG from February 2004. As the new 997-generation 911 took over Carrera Cup grids, this car moved into a private ownership for 2006 and contested the clubman-level Porsche Sports Cup for the following three seasons.
Now part of The Stuttgart Legends Collection, this ex-Works GT3 Cup is accompanied by its Wagenpass and is presented in its painted, rather than stickered, yellow-and-brown UPS period livery. Please note, following a period of static display, the 911 will require mechanical inspection prior to being driven. Bidders are also encouraged to validate the dates of the race safety equipment prior to campaigning the car.
