This 1962 Porsche 356B Cabriolet represents the first year of the T6 revision. Refinished in Silver Metallic with a new black canvas top over red leatherette upholstery, this Cabriolet is one of only 798 Reutter-bodied cars manufactured from August 1961 through July 1962. First owned by a military officer stationed in Germany, the 356 was later purchased by an Arizona family who owned the car for over 50 years. Originally Heron Grey (6207) over a blue leatherette interior, the 356 was delivered with many factory options including 2 armrests, headrest, two seat belts, an anti-glare rearview mirror, Blaupunkt ‘Frankfurt’ radio, 2 loudspeakers, antenna, and hubcaps.

The T6 (second generation) 356B provided both styling and mechanical improvements. The front hood was more symmetrical. Both the windshield and rear window were enlarged to provide greater visibility. The fuel filler was relocated from inside the trunk to atop the right front fender. The gasoline tank was redesigned to allow greater trunk storage. Both modifications provided significant improvements in convenience and accessibility. Twin rear deck grills improved engine cooling. The heater was modified to allow a mix of fresh air with heated air. An air intake vent on the cowl provided better passenger ventilation.

The refinished Silver Metallic paintwork presents very well with good gaps and panel fitment. There is no indication of rust. 15” x 5.5” chrome wheels with new Michelin All-Season 195 65 R15 tires, ‘Super’ hubcaps with center crests, Ponto Stabile exterior side mirror, and a chrome luggage rack complement its brilliant exterior.

The red leatherette interior includes a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, VDO gauges, and radio delete plate, and a newly-upholstered black soft top was recently installed.

Power is provided by a KD factory replacement 1.6L air-cooled flat-four engine (Type 616/16) with a manual 4-speed transmission (Type 741) with four-wheel drum brakes. In October of 2022, Auto Smithy’s LLC in Strawberry, Arizona, performed a complete engine rebuild. The case was media blasted and checked for deterioration. The crankshaft and camshaft were polished, Weber carburetor were installed, and the engine was reassembled with new seals and gaskets. European Collectibles technicians performed an engine tune-up and brake work prior to offering the vehicle for sale.

Included in the sale of this well-sorted, extensively documented 1962 Porsche 356B T6 Cabriolet (located in California) is a clear Arizona title, two boot covers, a spare wheel, and 51 years of service records and documents including the factory Porsche Kardex.
