1972 Porsche 911 T Coupé for sale!

This example presented is a 911 2.4 T armed model 1973. Delivered new in Germany in December 1972, the car was initially signal yellow, it was passed in the 80’s in grand prix white. The car has a track record since 1981 with 3 owners. It has its original engine and gearbox. It is equipped with deep fuchs rims, stainless steel exhaust and heat exchanger, perforated discs. Inside, Recaro style half leather/fabric seats are installed. The car has had a regular follow-up, among the recent interventions we can note the rebuilding of the carbs, new Bilstein shock absorbers, stainless steel exhaust and heat exchanger,… This example is presented very well and works perfectly. At the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche unveiled its prototype n°5, christened “901”. But at the official launch of its new GT, Porsche must rename them 911 because Peugeot had already filed all the names in three digits with a 0 in the middle. Until 1967, Porsche will sell more than 10,000 units of its GT which will become a reference in the world of sports cars.

It is this army that a range is declined around the same bodies (coupe and targa) with the same Flat 6 of two liters of cylinders but with different powers. Thus, the 2.0S will develop 160 bhp, the 2.0 T, 110 bhp to position itself at the entry level and the 2.0 L will develop 130 bhp.

In August 1968, Porsche will try to bring a solution to the very characteristic road handling of the Porsche 911. The factory technicians modify their flagship model and increase the wheelbase of the 911 by 5.8 cm from 2,210 m to 2,268 m.

Although 5.8 cm may not seem like much on paper, it is enough to significantly improve the Porsche 911’s handling, without denaturing the character that makes up its charm … This same army, Porsche replaces the 911 2.0 “L” by the “E”. Its name comes from its engine fuel system that changes to injection (“E” for Einspritz, or “injection” in German).

In August 1969, the 2.0 will be replaced by the 2.2I still under the three declinations T, E and S. Finally for the 1972 mileage, Porsche will increase again the displacement to 2.4 liters (moreover closer to 2.3L since 2341 cm3) with especially ( adoption of a new gearbox, the 915 replacing the 901 dogleg gearbox. The 911 2.4T will keep the Zenith carburettors, developing 130 hp, the two other models of the range being in mechanical injection.

The first production run of the 2.4 is characterized by the famous “oil flap”, placed on the ARD wing, an idea that was abandoned at mileage 73 due to a few fill-ups through the oil flap…
