The first generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo, chassis code 930, is amongst the most iconic and recognizable of the marque, helped, no doubt, by its defining role in 1980s popular culture. The Turbo model featured in numerous period MTV music videos and an episode of Miami Vice – what could be more ’80s? Of course, with much of its development resulting from the factory’s racing program, performance was spectacular.

In particular, it was the FIA Group 4 homologation rules that required 400 road cars to be built that spurred the development of ‘Project 930’, the car that became the legendary 911 Turbo and lent its name to the car’s chassis code. In production from April 1975, the Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3.0-liter Carrera RSR engine which, in road trim, a combination that delivered 260bhp and a top speed of 250km/h.
