A joint project between Porsche and Volkswagen, the Porsche 924 was intended to replace the 914 as a more practical car that would serve a wider audience. With a front-engine, rear-transaxle layout, the 924 offered excellent weight distribution, tempting Porsche to undertake further development projects and, naturally for Porsche, this led to the racetrack. Seeking to place the 924 in FIA Group 4 GTP, IMSA GTO, and SCCA C Production, homologation rules would call for building at least 400 street cars as a starting point for the racing variant, ultimately dubbed the 924 Carrera GT. First shown at the 1979 Frankfurt Auto Show, engineers were able to remove over 136 kilograms from the 924 Turbo while exterior enhancements included a hood scoop, wider fenders, Fuchs wheels, and a larger rear lip spoiler. Featuring upgraded suspension, larger four-wheel disc brakes, and a five-speed manual transmission, the 924 Carrera GT offered customers racing pedigree at a price on par with the 911 SC.

Finished in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in December of 1980 in Diamond Silver Metallic over a very period-appropriate Black and Red Pinstripe Velour interior, this 924 Carrera GT is one of just 406 homologation variants produced. This Swiss-market example was optioned with limited-slip differential, sport shock absorbers, rear window wiper, and a removable roof panel. The rare Carrera GT’s service book records it was sold via Autowad AG dealership (now AMAG Dulliken) to Hodel Air Team based in Lucerne. Regular servicing is evident via book stamps from Hodel’s long-term ownership until 1997 when the car—likely as a result of its increasing collectability—was placed into storage with approximately 78,000 kilometers. In 2017, the homologation special was sold by its original owner to Daniel Uebelhard who began a thorough restoration. Completed in 2018, the photo-documented restoration includes invoices for numerous parts sourced from Porsche specialty companies and Porsche Zentrum Schinznach Bad along with images of a repaint in its original shade of Diamond Silver Metallic. In 2018, the car was acquired by its current owner who commissioned Graber Sportgarage to complete additional work including a photo-documented overhaul of the transmission in 2019 with additional service visits in 2024 and 2025.

Documented as a matching-numbers example on its Porsche Delivery Certificate, this Carrera GT boasts a continuous chain of Swiss ownership and recent servicing.
