The Porsche from where it all started – the 356 model was produced as a coupe or cabriolet and quickly gained popularity in Europe and USA due to great driving characteristics and a high build quality. However this came with a price and the US importer of Porsche – Max Hoffmann – suggested to Porsche to make a cheaper, more simple sports car, able to compete with the many UK models from Triumph and MG (!). Ferry Porsche listened and in 1954 the Speedster was introduced as a base model with lowered windshield, side windows made of plastic, bucket seats and a hood which was not very useable. The model proved a huge success especially in USA, where among others the maybe most famous owner was the actor James Dean. In 1958 the Speedster was replaced by the “Convertible D” (D for Drauz who produced the bodies) featuring a slightly higher windshield and a bit more equipment, but still far more spartan and cheaper than the more comfortable Cabriolet. In 1959 the Roadster was introduced, built by Drauz on the T5 body for the first 2 years and for 1961 built on the T6 body by the Belgique company D`leteren.

This car is a T5 Roadster produced on 23 May 1960 in classic Silver Metal (Silbermetall 6006A) with red interior. According to the original service book the car was delivered new in New Jersey USA and comes with very comprehensive documentation for service and maintenance files, including evidence that a replacement engine was installed in 2010. In 2012 the car was imported to Belgium where it became part of a significant collection. Always being carefully looked after, including a major service work in excess of 11.000 euro. In 2025 the car arrived to Denmark where it received a comprehensive service, including new high quality original spec tires and it drives just as good as it looks.

It’s a true pleasure to get in behind the steering wheel. You sit quite low in the car so even tall persons will find a nice driving position, and the view to the beautiful VDO dials in the classic dash board will always make you smile. And it drives so well! There is a lot of torque in the Super 90 engine, the gearchange works smoothly and you will have no problems keeping up with modern traffic. The brakes as well newly renovated and serviced work well. Although this is not a racing car, it’s best enjoyed in on a bendy country road where the sound from the engine and fresh air makes it all come together, resulting in a big smile on your face. The cabin has been upgraded with delicious bucket seats – the original comfort seats comes with the car – all nicely wrapped in top luxury leather. Car is absolutely ready to be enjoyed by the next enthusiast and even priced quite attractively compared to the international market.
