In 1985, the desirable M491 Supersport Equipment (SSE) option became available for the Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera. This was a factory package that gave buyers the looks and handling of the 930 Turbo, but without the turbocharged engine. Known as the Carrera Supersport, it featured the full Turbo bodywork, uprated brakes, and suspension from the flagship 911 Turbo. Just 226 right hand drive examples of the were supplied to the UK, and of those, less than 75 were specified in Targa form, making this a rare and collectible air cooled 911. The M491 option was a costly one, adding around £10,000 to the price of a standard Carrera when new. It included distinctive wider wheel arches, a large rear spoiler, 16 inch Fuchs alloys, cross drilled discs with larger brake calipers, and uprated Turbo suspension.

This examples history file documents 27 recorded services, with Porsche main dealers and recognised specialists maintaining the car up to 100,000 miles, followed by careful maintenance for the last 13k miles by its previous owner, a professional mechanic. The most recent major service was completed in September 2024 by specialists Autowerke Porsche, including oil and all filters, spark plugs, valve adjustments, cam cover gaskets, brake fluid change, and new rear brake discs and pads. The car starts on the button and drives superbly, steel feeling tight and responsive on the road.

In 2019, the car underwent a full bare metal body restoration and repaint by respected Porsche restorer Lionel (formerly of Sportwagen). The work was completed to an exceptional standard and included replacement of key structural areas including the sills and kidney bowls. The quality of the finish is outstanding. A gearbox rebuild was carried out in February 2000, and the original 915 transmission continues to perform smoothly. The exhaust system has been upgraded to a full stainless Dansk sports system with stainless heat exchangers, providing a fantastic soundtrack. The original 16 inch Fuchs wheels have been refurbished and are fitted with premium Continental tyres. This Supersport comes with its original book pack and stamped service book, two keys, a folder of past invoices, and a clean HPI report. MOT valid until June 2026 with no advisories and with a major service just completed.
