In 1986, the unmistakable silhouette of the 911 Turbo returned to North America after a six-year absence, joined for the first time by Targa and Cabriolet variants. Production of the Type 930 continued for three more years before giving way to the incoming 964-generation 911, with the G-body platform reaching its peak in 1989. That final model year stands apart as the first and only 911 Turbo equipped with the desirable Getrag G50 five-speed manual transmission, widely regarded as the most refined and collectible iteration of the series.

Offered from the final year of G-body Turbo production, this 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet is one of the most visceral and coveted supercars of the 1980s, with original-owner examples like this becoming increasingly rare. Finished in rarely seen Linen Grey Metallic over a Black leather interior, this Cabriolet was delivered new through Merlin Olsen Porsche of Encino, California. The window sticker records that it was optionally equipped with a short shifter, steering wheel with raised hub, supple leather, and a tonneau cover. As specified, the total purchase price was just under $88,000 or nearly $240,000 today!

Under the care of a single Southern California owner for its entire life, this Turbo Cabriolet has been well preserved not only by its favorable climate but also by the owner’s exceptional and diligent care. This includes the installation of a new fabric soft top in cira 2018 along with recently installed Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires. The car has been looked after by Dave Bouzaglou at TRE Motorsports since 1990 and, more recently, by Specialized Porsche of Riverside, California, who completed a major service of the fuel system in January 2023, totaling nearly $11,000. This work included replacing the CIS fuel distributor, warm-up regulator, oxygen sensor, all six fuel injectors, and several fuel hoses, flushing the brake and clutch fluids, and installing a new engine pad.

As presented today, the car is highly original and shows just over 88,000 miles at the time of cataloging. Accompanied by its original window sticker, service records, and long-term specialist care, this final-year 911 Turbo Cabriolet represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most developed and desirable iterations of Porsche’s iconic Turbo.
