Photographed here, our very well-preserved 1992 Porsche 928 GTS, is finished in its incredibly rare, Black Pearl Metallic finish over a full, Nephrite Green leather interior. Recently imported from Sweden, this 928 GTS has traveled 113k kilometers (70k miles) and has recently undergone an extensive mechanical refresh.

The Porsche 928, introduced in the late 1970s, was a groundbreaking departure from Porsche’s traditional rear-engine design philosophy, showcasing a front-engine, water-cooled V8 layout. Originally conceived as a replacement for the iconic 911, the 928 aimed to combine high-performance capabilities with luxurious grand touring features.
The 928’s sleek and futuristic design, penned by Wolfgang Möbius under the guidance of Anatole Lapine, set it apart from its contemporaries. Despite its impressive engineering and performance, the 911 loyalists and economic factors of the time prevented the 928 from fully replacing the 911. Nevertheless, the 928 found its niche as a high-performance GT car, winning acclaim for its smooth power delivery and excellent handling.
Thought my many to be the pinnacle of the 928 line, the GTS trim was introduced in 1992 and represented the ultimate evolution of the model, featuring a 5.4-liter V8 engine that produced 345 horsepower. With its widened rear track and flared wheel arches, the GTS had a more aggressive and muscular stance, enhancing both its performance and visual appeal. The GTS boasted advanced technology for its time, including rear-wheel steering and a more refined interior. While the 928 never replaced the 911 as originally intended, the GTS model remains a highly sought-after collector’s item, celebrated for its combination of power, luxury, and distinctive design.
