It was a special edition model that stood out significantly. Visually, it certainly stood out thanks to the ducktail spoiler, beneath which was the “911 Sport Classic” lettering in chrome-plated real metal, modeled after the 1972–73 Carrera RS spoiler. A wide “Turbo-look” body combined with rear-wheel drive and a mechanical limited-slip differential for the purest driving experience. The wheels were reminiscent of the “Fuchs” rims from the 1970s. The Sport Classic is the only 997 with rear-wheel drive and a wide rear end. The interior of the car was also significantly modified; even the gearshift lever was redesigned. Special seats, trim, and other changes set the extensively equipped Sport Classic apart from other versions.
A fantastic sound emanates from the modified exhaust system, and its power has been increased to 408 PS (previously 385 PS). Unique features include the double-bubble roof—inspired by the 911 Panamericana concept car—as well as the removable roof panels of the Carrera GT.
