The previous history is unknown but at the time of the takeover by the current owner in 2012 the car was laid out and clearly a car that had a competitive past as a SCCA Club race car. The original engine was missing, but a correct 1960 type 616/2 (no. 86522) engine – which has the more desirable stronger crankcase and wider oil pump – was sourced, fully rebuilt (with 86mm pistons, so 1,720 ccm) and installed. The owner asked to install 356 disc brakes for safer driving. After a few years, the restoration was completed. The owner bought the Speedster to enable his wife to restore a very special classic car to a “like new” condition. Unfortunately, when she was finished, she could no longer drive.
