1989 Porsche 911 Speedster

Commissioned by Porsche for display at the 1989 Geneva Salon. – One of 171 narrow-body Speedsters. – Bespoke Pearlescent White exterior with matching leather interior. – Featuring rarely seen spoiler package and sport shock absorbers. – Powered by numbers-matching engine; showing 5,569 km (~3,461 mi.) at cataloguing

With its eye-catching fiberglass tonneau cover and lower, removable windshield, the one-year-only 1989 Porsche Speedster is instantly recognizable to committed Porsche enthusiasts. Designed as a lightweight, racy homage to its 356 ancestor, the Speedster was reintroduced following a 35-year absence, with most examples of the highly desirable two-seat variant quietly disappearing into private collections. Though the Speedster name had entered the automotive lexicon with the Ford Model T racers of the early 20th century, it was Porsche that popularized the term with its spartan and nimble rear-engine 356—a car that built its reputation on the race circuits of Southern California while carving out its place in 1950s pop culture. Fitting, then, that the nameplate would be revived for the final year of the Carrera 3.2, with a limited run of two-seat Speedsters (option code M503) built between January and August of 1989—1,943 of which featured wide bodywork based on the 911 Turbo, and 196 of which featured narrow bodywork like that of the standard Carrera 3.2.

The vehicle in detail

As noted on an appraisal document on file dated to 2024, this narrow-body Porsche Speedster was commissioned by Porsche to be displayed on their stand at the 1989 Geneva Salon. Given this status, the vehicle was distinguished with a unique Pearlescent White exterior with a matching extra range white leather interior and the rare spoiler package. A build document on file further confirms that the vehicle was fitted with sport shock absorbers and manually adjustable standard seats. Additionally, the dashboard features a modernized Porsche head unit.
After the show, the Porsche was sold and registered to its first caretaker, who kept the car in Switzerland for the next three decades. In 2024, the Speedster arrived on American soil and today, just 5,569 kilometers (~3,461 miles) show on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. In June 2026, the vehicle received a fluid and filter change along with a rear window refurbishment. A tool kit, first aid kit, and owner’s book will accompany the Speedster upon purchase.
The Porsche 911 Speedster is a rare and desirable model, doubly so when specified in the limited narrow-body configuration. With unique provenance and a stunning color combination, this example is made even more collectable to the most discerning Porsche enthusiasts.
