Carrera-Sport-Classics is proud to present this charming Porsche 911 T 2.0 Short Wheelbase, first registered on 20 June 1968 and originally delivered new in France through Sonauto, Porsche’s official French importer.
Finished in the elegant and timeless colour Sand Beige, this authentic A-Series belongs to the final generation of the original Short Wheelbase (SWB) Porsche 911 before the introduction of the longer wheelbase in 1969. Today, these early 2.0-litre SWB cars are regarded as some of the purest and most rewarding air-cooled 911s ever produced, combining lightweight construction, compact dimensions and an exceptionally engaging driving experience.
This example is believed to retain its original matching numbers engine and gearbox and still proudly wears its original Sonauto badge on the rear engine lid, a charming reminder of its French heritage.
One of the most appealing aspects of this 911 is the remarkable number of original 1968 model-year features that have been preserved. Collectors will appreciate details such as the recessed push-button door handles, rectangular door pockets, original chrome rear grille, painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, aluminium dashboard trim, original colour identification plate, opening front vent windows, opening rear quarter windows, original rubber floor mats, period-correct Recaro seats with headrests and the beautiful original wooden steering wheel. These characteristic details contribute enormously to the authenticity and collector appeal of this early SWB.
Unlike many early 911s that have undergone complete restorations, this Porsche has retained its honest and original character. The bodywork is solid and free from corrosion, displaying an attractive light patina together with sections of original factory paint. Rather than striving for concours perfection, this is exactly the type of authentic vintage Porsche that many enthusiasts actively search for today.
Originally delivered with the traditional French yellow headlamps, the car is now fitted with the correct European white headlamps while preserving its unmistakable French identity.
Although the history file is not complete from new, the car is accompanied by an extensive collection of maintenance invoices and documentation dating back to the early 1990s. Included are original French service invoices, several Contrôle Technique inspection reports and documented ownership over many years, including a long-term owner between 1998 and 2012 and the last Belgian owner, who carefully enjoyed and maintained the car since 2019.
The mechanical condition reflects the same philosophy. During the past two years alone, more than €11,000 has been invested in documented maintenance and mechanical preparation. In 2024, further maintenance and mechanical work amounting to over €4,100 was carried out. Most recently, Porsche Classic Center Gelderland performed an extensive inspection and comprehensive mechanical service representing an investment of more than €6,900 including VAT. The work included a major service with valve adjustment, engine and gearbox oil service, new filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, replacement fuel hoses, renewed crankcase ventilation hoses, front brake overhaul with new seals and brake hoses, steering correction and professional wheel alignment, installation of a new oil cooler, new original lap belts and numerous additional mechanical improvements.
As a result, this 911 is mechanically well prepared and ready to be enjoyed immediately by its next owner.
This is not a concours-restored museum piece, nor does it pretend to be. Instead, it is an honest, beautifully preserved and highly authentic early Porsche 911 with genuine vintage charm and exactly the kind of character that makes the first-generation SWB cars so desirable today.
Finding a fully restored early 911 is relatively easy. Finding a matching numbers 1968 Porsche 911 T 2.0 SWB that still retains so many original model-year details, beautiful period patina, documented history and significant recent mechanical investment is considerably more difficult.
Whether enjoyed on winding country roads, entered in classic touring events or simply admired as one of Porsche’s most iconic creations, this charming early 911 offers an authentic ownership experience that only a true Short Wheelbase Porsche can deliver.
