1990 Porsche 964 Carrera
When Porsche presented the 964 in 1989, it was not a refresh but a restart. About 85 percent of the car was new: coil springs instead of torsion rods, power steering, ABS, and in the back a 3.6 liter boxer with 250 hp. The shape remained unmistakably 911, the technique stepped forward a generation. The result was the last 911 that still seems to be hand-assembled, and at the same time the first one you could use every day.
This Carrera 2 rolled off the band on 27 April 1990 in Zuffenhausen and was delivered to France on 18 May of the same year. A model year 1990 car, from the first year in which the C2 was available. Where the C4 was the four-wheel-drive technology piece, the C2 has always remained the choice of the rider. Lighter, more direct, and with the engine that controls the rear wheel like a 911 should. Manual gearbox, five speeds (G50/03).
On the VIN sheet is an option that really matters: the lock differential (220). You don’t often find it back on a C2 today, and it makes the backside when a turn turns out considerably more comforting. In addition, automatic air conditioning (573), and no sliding roof, which keeps the roof line pure and the weight low. No Tiptronic, no later added decor, just a pure Carrera 2.
