This vehicle was delivered on January 14, 1994, in the C00 country specification (Germany) to Ernst Palmberger. The RSR was ordered in the special paint color X4 Speed Yellow, combined with a black interior in synthetic leather (equipment code 87). The left racing bucket seat is finished in black and upholstered with black STO fabric.
The Porsche 964 RSR is powered by a 3.8-liter M64/04 flat-six engine, mated to a G50/10 five-speed manual transmission. The engine currently installed is an original 3.8-RSR replacement engine. It is no longer the engine installed at the time of delivery—with engine number 62P85649—but it is a genuine and original RSR 3.8 engine that meets factory specifications.
This vehicle was delivered from the factory in the Carrera RSR 3.8 (M005) racing specification and equipped with Pirelli tires (M050). The 40/40 limited-slip differential (M220) ensures optimal traction under racing conditions. The 18-inch RS Cup wheels (M406), combined with the wide-body kit (M491), define the vehicle’s powerful appearance. The five-speed manual transmission (M481) works in conjunction with non-power-assisted steering (M656) to deliver a direct, unadulterated driving experience.
The interior features the original leather steering wheel (M433) and the left-hand racing bucket seat (M388). In keeping with its consistent racing design, the vehicle was configured without driver and passenger airbags (M564). For long-distance races, the RSR was equipped with the large 120-liter fuel tank (M546). Upon delivery, the equipment was supplemented by a jack system, central locking, the RS 3.8’s parking brake system, and a special ADAC GT exhaust system.
It is particularly noteworthy that this 964 RSR 3.8 is still equipped with its original ABS-5 braking system. This racing ABS was produced in quantities corresponding exactly to the number of vehicles built. Consequently, a fully preserved original ABS-5 system is extremely rare today.
The car’s history is closely tied to Ernst Palmberger’s motorsports career. In the 1994 season, he competed for Mühlbauer Motorsport in the BPR series, initially with an RSR 3.8 body. For the 1995 ADAC GT Cup, Palmberger ultimately put his personally commissioned car—chassis number PS496094—into service.

A notable exception is the fact that this particular vehicle was ordered with full street legality. It received individual certification from the TÜV, a German vehicle registration certificate, and an official vehicle passport. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only Porsche 964 RSR 3.8 in the world with official German street registration—an extraordinary rarity for a thoroughbred factory race car.
Until its subsequent restoration, the vehicle had been driven only 4,116 kilometers. Since the completion of the comprehensive and professionally executed restoration, the car has been used exclusively for test drives and short trips to keep the mechanical systems in perfect condition. This exceptionally low mileage further underscores the rarity of this RSR.
Starting in 1997, the car was entered in the Porsche Supercup and was later converted to the Turbo S LM specification. As part of this conversion, the engine was equipped with a supercharger. This was followed by further appearances in hill climbs and club racing events.
A few years ago, the vehicle was inspected by renowned Porsche expert Jochen Bader, who confirmed its originality. Today, this 964 Carrera RSR 3.8 is in excellent condition, with a consistent history and extremely low mileage.
The chassis number WP0ZZZ96ZPS496094 combines a documented racing history, original racing technology—including the rare ABS-5 system—confirmed authenticity, and the globally unique combination of a factory race car and official German street registration. A collector’s car of exceptional standing and a rare opportunity in the market for significant air-cooled Porsche race cars.
