For 20 years, I’ve driven various 997 models in all their forms, and despite the 991 and 992, I’ve always come back to the 997. Only the 997 has that iconic design and is more of a sports car than a Gran Turismo.
In the Turbo, the Mezger engine paired with Tiptronic is a perfect combination; with the engines from the 997 facelift, the automated transmission no longer compromises sportiness. On the contrary, extremely short shift times and seven gears ensure better performance and lower fuel consumption compared to a manual transmission. And you can still shift using the paddles. The best of both worlds.
On the all-wheel-drive 4S variant, the rear view appears more voluminous than on the rear-wheel-drive version thanks to the continuous light strip. But for those who know the tight hairpin bends of the Stelvio, appreciate the technically demanding section of the Timmelsjoch, and master the transition between fast and slow curves in the Namlos Valley with ease, maneuverability and agility are what count.
And you’ll still cut a fine figure in front of the ice cream shop.

An emotional used car. Does such a thing exist? Yes. Never has the saying been more apt: a Porsche isn’t old—it just has new owners.
Enjoy it. It’s worth it. And even more so when you activate the flap exhaust and enjoy the throaty Porsche sound with the top down. No gasoline particulate filter. No sound symposer in the cabin.
But purely mechanical and unadulterated. Which is basically why you drive a Porsche. As the most beautiful way to be mobile.
