The vehicle in detail

Chassis No. W09TD0361RPR06006

Any W09 chassis number RUF is a special car—by definition. So, then what can be said for a RUF built during the Pfaffenhausen company’s golden era of the 1990s, offered from its original owner, and endowed with Evolution upgrades boosting horsepower to nearly 500?

Something quite extraordinary!

During the second half of the 1980s, RUF held the attention of nearly everyone interested in high-performance sports cars with their iconic Yellow Bird. A new decade brought a new 911, “85 percent new” in fact, and this 964-generation 911 would form the basis for the new RUF RCT (RUF Carrera Turbo). Like many RUFs, the RCT’s engine is the star. Upon debut, the turbocharged and intercooled 3.6-liter flat-six packed 370 PS and a highly impressive 395 Nm of torque, flowing through a RUF exhaust system. A RUF-designed six-speed manual transmission put the power to the road via 18-inch RUF-Speedline wheels that aged, if possible, even better than the original Yellow Bird’s. While engine-focused, Alois Ruf didn’t neglect the rest of the car. The brakes, suspension, and aerodynamics were all upgraded, each of them a “must-have” at the speeds the RCT can generate. In fact, Road & Track said in December 1993 that “You (can) push the RCT like crazy, deep into a corner, and just as you’re expecting it to get light, the car plants its tires and takes a set like cement. Nothing is done softly, but in a machine this pure, there’s no reason in the world that it should be.”

The powerful RUF RCT certainly captured the attention of the consignor who, in 1994 to mark his 30th birthday, contacted Alois Ruf in Pfaffenhausen, and placed a celebratory order for his vision of what a RUF Carrera Turbo could be. An exceptionally well-documented example, the Ulm resident selected RUF chassis number 6006 in Tannengrün (Forest Green) Metallic over a full Black leather interior. The original invoice, dated 28 April 1994, confirms the specification and reveals the optional extras that include Carrera RS front and rear bumpers, a Turbo 3.3 rear wing, rear window wiper, sunroof, polished exhaust tips and, of course, its exceptional five-spoke 18-inch RUF-Speedline wheels. Interior options include electric windows, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt Berlin IQR 88 stereo, an aluminum shift knob, heated electric seats, and an alarm system. The specification leaves no doubt that the RCT’s new owner demanded exhilarating performance and near S-Class levels of refinement while testing its limits on the Autobahn at 300 km/h. Interestingly, what emerged from Pfaffenhausen was, in effect, a proto-993-generation 911 Turbo two years before its debut!

The impressive cache of unbroken documentation, often only found with rare single-owner examples such as this, shows exclusive and regular servicing in Pfaffenhausen. Over 60 pages of RUF invoices dating between 1994 and 2024 and the associated service book stamps reveal the exceptional dedication afforded to the Tannengrün RCT by its caretaker. In 2017, perhaps bitten by the pferdestärke bug so prevalent among those who visit the RUF factory, the consignor elected to rebuild the 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six to RUF’s Evo specification. Factory information regarding the Evo upgrade reveals a thoughtfully executed evolution of the RCT’s character. Power was raised to 405 PS through revised engine management, upgraded camshafts, and a reworked turbocharger system, supported by improved intercooling and additional oil cooling, yet preserving the confidence-inspiring composure that defines the marque—even as performance moved into an entirely new realm. Interestingly, while RUF factory literature claimed just over 400 PS, this RCT reached an incredible 486 PS on RUF’s own dynamometer!

RUF RCT chassis 6006 is Zero-Point Provenance defined, a collector car known only to a select few—until now, as it is presented to a global audience for the first time. Offered today from its original owner with 102,867 kilometers at cataloging, finished in a striking shade of Tannengrün Metallic and equipped with a highly desirable specification, this RCT will appeal strongly to enthusiasts of RUF, Porsche, and analog 1990s supercar performance. With the addition of exclusive RUF servicing and its powerful factory Evo engine upgrade, this example is simply unrepeatable.
