RUF Automobile GmbH has long been the enthusiast choice for those in search of a unique sports car. Since 1981, German authorities have formally recognized the company as an independent manufacturer, with the marque standing on its own foundations. Following years of speed records, magazine covers, and the awe-inspiring sports cars that cemented its reputation, RUF unveiled the fully carbon SCR at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. In a fitting tribute to the original SCR, RUF honored the legend that first put its name on the map some four decades earlier.
Beneath its carbon fiber body, the new SCR is a clean-sheet design. It consists of a carbon fiber monocoque with front and rear spaceframes bonded to the central tub and an integrated roll cage fabricated from high-strength steel. The aerodynamically optimized carbon fiber bodywork was shaped with the assistance of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. Its structure is entirely engineered from scratch, rather than a “body in white” supplied by Porsche.
Mounted behind the rear axle is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated, water-cooled, flat-six that draws on the lineage of the Mezger-derived engine family. It develops a potent 510 horsepower at 8,270 rpm and 347 lb-ft of torque at 5,760 rpm. Drive reaches the rear wheels exclusively through a six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential, preserving the tactile, analog quality of engagement that has long defined the best of RUF’s creations. At just 1,250 kilograms (2,756 pounds), the SCR reaches 62 mph from rest in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 199 mph, reflecting the exceptionally favorable power-to-weight ratio.
Those afforded the opportunity to specify a RUF understand the deeply personal experience that the Ruf family provides, with many customers on a first-name basis with Alois and Estonia. Commissioned in 2022, this SCR, finished in PTS (Paint to Sample) Golden Classic, certainly benefits from this personal relationship. A quietly confident build, chassis number 06017 is set off by silver 19-inch, double-spoke, lightweight wheels framing silver RUF-banded calipers and massive carbon-ceramic brakes.
Inside, this SCR benefits from an equally judicious use of the pen when ticking the options sheet. Most prominent are the folding carbon fiber Lollipop sport bucket seats upholstered in Charcoal (anthrazite) leather with black and creme Pepita houndstooth fabric inserts and Golden stitching selected to match the exterior. Complementing the sporting nature of the SCR, the dashboard and door panels both feature the “visible” carbon fiber option. Additional options selected at the time of ordering include a front-axle hydraulic lifting system for greater real-world usability, a fire extinguisher, and magnetic number plates. The full configuration as ordered is available for review upon request.
Unveiled at the 2025 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and delivered to the original owner by Alois Ruf himself that weekend, RUF SCR chassis 06017 is offered in near-new condition with just under 2,000 miles at consignment. As RUF’s order books continue to fill and such custom builds require years to complete, this example, fresh from Pfaffenhausen’s exacting build process, is located in the United States just past its factory-prescribed break-in procedure.
RUF describes the new SCR as “Pure driving pleasure.” Those with the SCR’s 510-horsepower naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six behind them and the lever to the six-speed manual transmission in hand would find it hard to disagree. A car this thoughtfully specified deserves to be driven with gusto; however, it would be difficult to fault its next owner for spending just as much time admiring it.
