The history of the 911 Carrera 3.2 «G

The 911 has already been around for 10 years when Porsche decides to change its flagship model, indeed in 1974, the 911 knows profound changes with this new version «G».
Recognizable among all with its bumpers with gusset, the logo type «911» black on the rear hood below the black engine grill and the band Porsche between the rear lights. Inside, however, the only difference is the seats with integrated headrests.

At the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Stuttgart-based brand presents the Carrera 3.2, aesthetically the look evolves very little compared to the SC.

A new spoiler with integrated fog lamps and a Carrera logo on the engine hood are just a few of the small details of the 3.2.

Inside, the Carrera 3.2 still has the typical 911 ambience, with adjustable seats that allow the driver to enjoy a perfect driving position. The build quality is impeccable, the impression of robustness is more than present on board. However, the real 911 experience begins when the driver inserts the key on the left and turns it to start the ignition. The 6-cylinder flat engine starts with a roar that is typical of air-cooled engines.

On the road, the Carrera 3.2’s driving experience is typical of the 911s of the time: manly. The absence of power steering and any other driving aids, coupled with the engine’s rear overhang, gives a real feeling of being at one with the car, even at low speeds.

The concentration and drive required to take the car on the back roads is a real pleasure to drive, always accompanied by the magical soundtrack of the flat-6, which is throaty at low revs and metallic at higher revs. The block is coupled to a gearbox that is particularly pleasant to handle (especially the G50 installed on the Carrera 3.2 from the 1986 vintage).
