The S model includes a 6-speed manual transmission, larger brakes, stronger wheel bearing carriers, larger bearings, and longer control arms. The wheels are 17 inches as standard, with an additional front grille, left and right radiator inlets in titanium, dual exhaust pipes, specific “S” door sills, a new 3-spoke steering wheel and fabric headliner, as well as changes to the convertible top mechanism.Released in August 2002, the 986 Series III (986.III) Boxster introduced more powerful engines with variable valve timing and a subtle facelift. The 986.III Boxster is characterized by its new bumpers, body-colored side intakes, clear turn signals (previously orange), and electrically heated rear window (previously plastic).
