SUMMARY

Some Carrera RS have been restored to perfection. #1581 has something rather more difficult to recreate: authenticity.

Completed on 29 June 1973, it is one of the very last Carrera RS 2.7s produced – and the last one ever built in the iconic Grand Prix White with red Carrera script combination. Its accident-free body has retained exceptional original substance, complemented by an extraordinarily original interior and its rare original matching-numbers 7R Silumin aluminium engine.

Preserved rather than recreated, yet comprehensively sorted mechanically, #1581 combines the character of a genuine 1973 RS with the confidence of a car that is ready to be driven.

And genuine means genuine. Porsche specialist Jochen Bader independently authenticated #1581, including magneto-optical examination of its VIN and production-number stampings. No creative archaeology, no reconstructed identity, no RS assembled from a collection of interesting parts. This one is the real thing.

Original where it matters. Thoroughly sorted where it counts.

The vehicle in detail

DETAILED DESCRIPTIONPRESERVED, NOT RECREATED

#1581 is a German-delivered Carrera RS 2.7 Touring M472, completed on 29 June 1973 and delivered through MAHAG Munich. It has remained in Germany throughout its life and still retains its original German cardboard title – the original Fahrzeugbrief – together with its production documentation.

Its accident-free body has never undergone a complete restoration and has never been completely dismantled. During the preservation work, only the front wings and bonnet were removed. The underside was carefully dry-ice cleaned and protected where necessary.

The result is increasingly difficult to find today: an RS that has retained an exceptional amount of its original substance.

The same is true inside. Original Recaro sport seats with original upholstery, original carpets, headliner, dashboard, instruments and RS steering wheel remain with the car. Even the dashboard is beautifully preserved. Apart from loudspeakers fitted to the doors early in its life, the interior remains remarkably untouched.

The patina has not been recreated. It has been preserved.

ONE OF THE LAST

#1581 is one of the final Carrera RS 2.7s produced – and the last one ever built in Grand Prix White with red Carrera script.

Its original matching-numbers engine carries the rare late-production 7R Silumin aluminium crankcase, developed from Porsche’s competition experience and closely associated with the technical evolution towards the RSR.

No replacement. No later upgrade. The engine the car was born with.

MECHANICALLY SORTED

Originality was preserved. The mechanics received the investment.

The matching-numbers engine and gearbox were comprehensively rebuilt by Manfred Rugen. Chassis and suspension were mechanically overhauled. Fuel lines were renewed from front to rear, and the fuel and oil systems comprehensively addressed. Even the original fuel tank was retained, removed and thoroughly cleaned rather than replaced.

The work is supported by an extensive photographic record.

Original where it matters. Thoroughly sorted where it counts.

The car is technically strong, fully roadworthy and ready to be driven.

THE REAL THING

In March 2026, #1581 was independently inspected and authenticated by Porsche specialist Jochen Bader. Importantly, the inspection was originally commissioned by a prospective buyer – not by the seller.

Matching-numbers engine and gearbox, original VIN, original production number and original aluminium VIN plate were confirmed. VIN and production-number stampings were additionally examined using magneto-optical imaging, with no evidence of manipulation or underlying alternative numbers.

The inspection is documented by 495 detailed photographs.

Together with the extensive photographic record of the mechanical work, there is very little left to guess about.

FOURTEEN YEARS

For almost fourteen years, #1581 has been part of the private collection of an international automotive photographer whose professional world has revolved around Porsche and exceptional automobiles for decades.

The philosophy was simple:

Never make the RS look new. Keep it real.

It became more than a collection car – a companion, driven, photographed and enjoyed.

Now it is time for #1581 to continue its story with its next owner.

The complete independent inspection report, the 495-image inspection archive, the photographic documentation of the mechanical work and further records are available to serious interested parties.

Private sale from long-term ownership.
