Finished in stunning Guards Red over a full Black leather interior, this 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe is a particularly well-preserved example with a lifelong Connecticut history. The car was originally purchased new from Porsche Avon and has remained with its most recent owner since 2002.
Throughout its life, the car has been carefully maintained and, for the past 25 years, has been driven sparingly. We recently completed a comprehensive major service, going through the car from top to bottom and addressing the mechanical and service items necessary to bring this 964 up to our exacting standards.
The car is accompanied by its original books and manuals, factory tools, compressor, spare wheel, and its original Blaupunkt radio, currently upgraded with a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46 unit. Its exceptional presentation, desirable specification, long-term ownership history, and Connecticut provenance make this a particularly appealing example for the enthusiast or collector.
1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 History
Introduced for the 1989 model year, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (964) represented a significant evolution of the iconic 911, with approximately 85% of the car being new compared with its predecessor.
The Carrera 4 was powered by Porsche’s 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six, producing 250 horsepower, and featured coil-spring suspension, power steering, ABS, and an advanced all-wheel-drive system derived from the legendary Porsche 959. The result was a 911 that combined the traditional character of the air-cooled 911 with substantially improved performance, handling, braking, and all-weather capability.
The early 1989 Carrera 4 models are particularly interesting to collectors. These cars were produced before the introduction of airbags and retained a single-mass flywheel, contributing to the distinctive mechanical character of the earliest 964s.
