The interior has also been the subject of special attention. At some point during the car’s history, a previous owner had several leather components reupholstered, a relatively common modification at the time. Keen to restore this 964 to its original appearance, we entrusted Justin Placek with the restoration of the leather on the driver’s seat, the passenger seat, and the dashboard. The result is remarkable and faithfully replicates the factory finish.
Unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1990, the 911 Turbo Type 964 succeeded the 930 Turbo 3.3L, nicknamed the “widowmaker.” It retained the wide fenders, while the legendary Fuchs wheels were replaced by equally stunning 5-spoke wheels. The 964 Turbo 3.3L gained 20 chevaux, allowing the air-cooled flat-6 to deliver 320 chevaux at 5,750 tr/min and propel the car to 270 km/h. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and covers 1,000 meters from a standing start in 24.5 seconds. After 3,660 units were produced and three years later, the displacement was increased to 3.6L.
Externally, the Porsche 911 Type 964 represents a profound evolution of a platform dating back to 1963. Of course, with the help of modern technology, engineers succeeded in transforming a car that nevertheless retains its own distinct identity and unique character. It’s impossible not to recognize the original charm of the 911 in the 964. Among other features, the 964 Turbo features Cup Design exterior mirrors and black brake calipers. It also boasts two side exhaust tips.
The 964 Turbo features the new-generation triangular suspension setup, marking a break from 25 years of using torsion bars. At both the front and rear, spring-damper assemblies make their debut, providing better handling. With standard power steering, maneuverability becomes exceptional. In addition, the G50/52 5-speed manual transmission is excellent. Aside from ABS, the car has no driver-assistance features, but the precision of the front suspension and high-speed stability are two qualities that set the Turbo apart.
