2015 Porsche 991 Carrera S
When Porsche launched the 7th generation of the 911 (code named 991) in 2011, enthusiasts moaned as they always do when a 911 series gets replaced, about how it was bigger and more comfortable than the outgoing 997 series. However, in the case of the 991, with evolution came revolution. Although larger than the car it replaced, it was up to 80KGs lighter in some models and with 90% of the components not carried over from the 997, there was definite uptick in quality and technology too, which gave the car more of a premium GT feel that can be found in more recent Porsches today. Jump out of last generation 718 or Macan for example, and the design language will feel very familiar. However, whilst the latest cars are laden with essential tech to satisfy ever tightening legislation, this doesn’t always improve the sports car driving experience.
The 991.1 is largely devoid of these features and GT/ST/R cars aside, is the last 911 to feature normally aspirated flat six engines. Today this translates into a car that still feels fresh and modern inside, however, as in earlier traditional cars, delivers a raw flat 6 growl from engines, that still need to be worked to perform their magic.
