Introduced by Porsche as the intended replacement for the 911 and focused more as a sporty grand tourer, the V8-powered 928 rewarded buyers with exciting performance, seating for four, and space for a weekend’s worth of luggage. As with all of Porsche’s models, the 928 received numerous updates throughout its production. By 1989, its V8’s displacement had been increased to 5.0L and power was up to 315hp.

While only ever offered as a coupe by Porsche, several companies offered packages that transformed the car into a stunning convertible. Understandably, such conversions were immensely expensive, so only a handful of cars were modified in this way. One of these companies, Z Motor Company (ZMC) of Norwalk, California (now Newport Convertible Engineering), was also renowned for its hand-crafted, high-quality cabriolet conversions of the Ferrari Testarossa, Rolls-Royce Camargue, and Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC.
