The 356C

The Porsche 356SC needs little introduction. As the final evolution of the 356, it represented the most developed version of Porsche’s original sports car, combining its elegant design with improved braking, handling and mechanical refinement.

This particular example takes the 356SC considerably further. Following a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, it has been developed around a highly sophisticated Willhoit 2.1-litre engine and finished with an exceptional level of craftsmanship throughout.

The vehicle in detail

This 356C

The car has undergone a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, with the body, chassis, mechanical components and interior all brought to an exceptionally high standard. The result is a car that presents today with the level of finish and detail one would expect from a comprehensive, no-compromise restoration.

The original colour combination has been confirmed by Porsche documentation, with the car specified in Slate Grey. The exterior is complemented by a completely bespoke red Foglizzo leather interior, meticulously crafted by a high quality coachbuilder. The quality of the interior workmanship provides a striking contrast to the understated exterior and gives the car a uniquely luxurious yet sporting character.

The centrepiece of the car, however, is undoubtedly the Willhoit WR 2.1 engine.

Far removed from the standard 1,600 cc unit, the Willhoit 2.1 is a comprehensively developed performance engine designed specifically for the 356. With increased displacement and extensively upgraded internal components, it offers a significant improvement in both power and torque while retaining the character of the Porsche flat-four. These engines have been tested at 135 hp, giving the car a level of performance that is transformative compared with a standard 356C.

The additional performance is supported by dual front oil-coolers and a Magnaflow sports exhaust system with twin outlets and silencers. The sports exhaust has deliberately replaced the original heating arrangement, meaning that the car is not equipped with heating. This is a conscious part of the performance-focused specification rather than an omission.

During the restoration, the car was also converted to 12v and the braking system has been substantially upgraded with 911-specification disc brakes, providing stopping power appropriate to the increased performance. The car also sits on a set of 16-inch Boyd Coddington wheels, giving it a purposeful stance while retaining the unmistakable proportions of the 356.

Inside, the beautifully crafted red Foglizzo leather extends across the bespoke interior, with sporting bucket seats featuring folding backs. A roll bar further underlines the driver’s-car and outlaw character of the build. A lot of beautiful and high quality details are what makes it truly special: the Marchal fog lights, the beautiful steering wheel, the lovely covers for the bumpers holes, perfect chrome and lights, the clean finished trunk and engine bay, the custom logos, the Berlin bullit mirror …

The odometer currently shows just 2 kilometers, reflecting the restoration and previous build work. The car is therefore essentially presented in post-restoration condition. The result is a 356C that retains the elegance and character of Porsche’s original sports car while offering performance, engineering and craftsmanship far beyond that of a standard 1,600 cc example.

The car comes with a lot of invoice documenting its restoration, its Porsche Certificate, the Kardex build sheet, and almost a 750 pictures from its restoration and result.
