O veículo em detalhes

Uwe Brettel, President of Porsche Motorsport North America

The foundation for the ultra-successful 997-generation 911 GT3 RSR of 2007 to 2012 was laid years earlier with the racing variants of the Porsche 911 996 type. Built to ACO and FIA rules to contest the highest levels of international GT racing, the earliest GT3 R, RS, and RSR clinched more than their fair share of class championships and a number of prestigious overall victories, most notably the 24 Hours of Spa and Daytona 24 Hours.

Race teams and endurance racing fans were no doubt salivating when Porsche’s Motorsport department announced the new 2007 911 GT3 RSR for the American Le Mans Series and other world GT racing venues in 2006. Just 35 were made that winter. The new 997-generation GT3 RSR proved just as successful as its forebear, victorious overall at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and taking well-deserved class victories at Le Mans, Spa, and the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. All manner of technical innovations contributed to this success including wider wheels and bodywork, a stiffer chassis, a lower center of gravity, improved aerodynamics, and that all-important Porsche endurance racing reliability.

Chassis number 26 of the 35 examples produced for 2007 is believed to be an uncampaigned example of this exceptional GT racing car. Set up by noted race engineer Marc Manning, it is currently ready as a gentleman’s racer or track day car. It has been converted to Megaline paddle shift and additionally features Bosch MS4 anti-lock brakes with enjoyment and ease of use in mind. Marc Manning notes that the ECU has been reprogrammed for the ABS and flat shifting and should only show approximately 20 mins of run time from a shakedown test. In fact, Porsche intended this concept from the outset noting that the new GT3 RSR featured redesigned, service and driver-friendly electronics. Seeing less use and door-to-door action than most of its siblings and with amenities that enhance its usability, chassis number 26 and its carbon fiber Recaro seat may just be the perfect fit for those looking for a collectable factory Porsche racer to recreate mid-2000s GT racing at its finest.
